A Most Special Day

On December 5, 2009 Emma was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was confirmed on December 6, 2009.  We are so proud of this thoughtful decision that Emma has made!

Emma was baptized and confirmed by her dad, Steve.

Dallin needed a diaper change right before we started, so he missed the first family picture...he also created enough havoc that I realized later that we don't have a grand family picture with Grandma and Grandpa Dallin, Grandma Hunting, and Michael!  They also came to Emma's baptism from Utah, Chicago, and Boston.  Thanks for making the trip for the occasion, it made it truly special!!

Emma was also so fortunate to have her first and second grade teachers come to her baptism.  It was so wonderful of them to take the time to come support Emma, it meant the world to her!!  We also had great friends and neighbors attend, many who do not share our religion, so it was so special to have our New Hampshire family there!  We wish that all of our family could have been there but know that the trip would have been a bit too much for many!

Here's Emma with her teachers and great friend, Ethan.

After the baptism we had some refreshments at our house with our friends and celebrated the day!

Grandpa Dallin presented Emma with a Dallin traditional Baptism gift from a Grandpa Dallin (I got mine from my Grandpa Dallin): a minted coin set purchased the year she was born.  I have one that was purchased the year I was born and presented to me for my baptism and now my dad is continuing the tradition.  What a fun and unique way to celebrate!

Emma's Grandma Hunting also presented Emma with 2 neat baptism books that she is excited to fill with membories of a wonderful day!

Speaking of wonderful gifts, Emma was overwhlemed with special memorabilia, including beautiful necklaces and bracelets, engraved boxes, a journal, cards, and other thoughtful gifts.  She is now working on her thank you cards but wonders how you adequately thank everyone for showing her special love!  We are working on putting up a picture of the special items for your enjoyment but Steve took the camera with him to Greece so we will have to add them later!

Anyway, a couple of days after Emma's baptism another special gift arrived.  Emma's Great-Grandpa Dallin made her this amazing treasure box, complete with certificate of authenticity (which was her favorite part) telling the story of the box's creation.  The box is made of cedar and has a music box.  It also came with special mint coins for Emma, Lauren, and Dallin (of course!  Grandpa Dallin is the supreme coin collector!).  Lauren had to get a special box for her coin to go in, of course!

We also took the opportunity while my parents were here to celebrate my Dad's birthday.  Lauren helped me make some delicious Amish Ginger cookies for him as well as other trinkets for gifts.  Then everyone piled on for a fun picture.

Before Grandma and Grandpa Dallin flew out of Boston, we stopped at Newick's, a fun local seafood restaurant.  Then we dashed up to York beach to drive along the coast before heading down to the airport.  All in all, we crammed a ton of fun into a very short time before they left.

Emma bravely held a Lobster at Newick's!

Before Grandma Hunting headed home on Saturday, we had a nice snowstorm that layered about 10 inches of wet snow on the ground.  JoAnn and I shoveled the driveway and our wonderful neighbor snowblowed where the plow had buried us in.  Soon we should have our newly acquired snowblower up and running so we don't have to do any more heavy lifting!!  Still, the kids had a grand time playing outside and, of course, chowed down on hot chocolate and apple crisp inside.  We had a great time baking, shopping, and relaxing before Grandma had to go home!

And just when we thought that it would be time to relax......back to work, shipping packages, cleaning house, and all of the other life responsibilities seem to be piling on with no mercy!  Oh well, 'Tis the Season, I guess!

Happy Birthday, Emma!

Happy 8th Birthday to our sweet Emma!

We had a great day celebrating Emma's birthday together as a family a couple of weeks ago.  It was a quiet celebration of this lady's entry into this world but just right since we knew we would have another celebration just a week later.  She is just a light in our family and we love her so much!  Emma is a very thoughtful girl, with tons of personality balanced with tenderness.  She cares about people and their feelings, she is very empathetic, a peacemaker, a comedian, a magician, a scientist, an artist, a reader, quite spiritual, and fun-loving.  What a wonderful daughter, sister, grandaughter, great-grandaughter, and friend!  How could we make it through the day without her!!
Emma enjoyed receiving fun packages stuffed with goodies, as well as visits from friends dropping off Littlest Pet Shop toys (LPS to you groupies), which delighted the birthday girl.  Thoughful gifts included clothes, a scientific kitchen set, a savings bond, toys, and a video/MP3 player with several Disney movies to watch on the little screen!  Thank you so much everyone for making her feel so special!  Lauren was so thrilled to be in charge of guarding the gifts on the toy box and received a huge bear hug from Emma for her efforts and LPS gift!
Happy Birthday, Emma!!
Opening the packages was a group effort!

What!? This is the exact one I wanted!!

Gobble Gobble

We had a fun Thanksgiving this year.  Our friends, the Peterson Family, invited us to join them and the Titus family for a grand feast.  We ate until our pants were too tight, of course.  And Steve was bummed because he forgot to wear his stretchy pants.  We missed our families and thought of them all day, wishing we could be together.  On our list of so many blessings that we are thankful for, family tops the list.  We love and miss you all!!

Comments allowed....

Dear Steve, Mom, and other Blog-Stalkers,

Just so you know, I have changed the settings on this blog so that you can write comments even without a Blogger ID.  I will be approving the comments, but if you have anything you want to say, you are welcome to do so!  For example, Steve may wish to write, "I can't believe you let me wear that awful Shaggy wig to the Trunk or Treat!"  Or Mom may wish to write, "Wow, it really is true that I have the cutest grandkids in the entire world!"  Or Matt and Foss may wish to write, "Please change your playlist to include songs by Milli Vanilli."  Whatever the case may be, I fully support the first ammendment and you are now free to make comments as you will!  Don't forget that I also believe in censorship.

Love,
Mary

P.S.  I added a trick or treat photo but it pretty much looks identical to our previous Mystery Inc. shots.  Check it out below!

Trunk or Treat and Trick or Treat

Mystery Inc.
Well, in case you can't tell, we are Mystery Inc. this year for Halloween!  Our family attended the annual Trunk or Treat at the church, which was so much fun!  Prepare to be spooked!

The Gang, Starring:

Emma as Daphne Blake
"OLD MAN SMITHERS? I KNEW IT ALL ALONG..."

Lauren as Scooby Dooby Doo
"RUH-ROH!"

Dallin as Fred "Freddie" Jones
"THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS MONSTERS!"

Steven as Norville "Shaggy" Rogers
"ZOINKS!"

Mary as Velma Dinkley
"JINKIES"
We had a great time and look forward to Halloween----I still need to put the finishing touches on Lauren's costume to make it look more like Scooby Doo.

We also had a great night Trick-or-Treating, with another photo of Mystery Inc. for your enjoyment!

Happy Hauntings

In our preparations for the SPOOKIEST day of the year, we attended a fun Halloween party at our friends' house on Friday night and the kids dressed up as an Egyption Princess, a Chicken, and a Patriot.  Mom was a rock star and Dad came as a nerd (as in, he didn't wear a costume).  It was super fun....but it was just a warm up for the Trunk or Treat and Halloween!!

FAMILY NIGHT

Tonight for our Family Home Evening, our activity was (naturally) carving Jack-O-Lanterns.  We had a super-duper slimy time!!

The spooky man himself.
The eyes were designed by Emma, nose desined by Lauren, and mouth designed by Mary.  Steve carved the beast and Dallin just wanted the lights back on ASAP.

Should I be worried?

The other day I was hanging up a bunch of jackets, including several raincoats that we have needed over the past weeks. Dallin jumped on the pile, of course, and asked to put on a raincoat. I offered him his adorable green frog raincoat. He said, "No. I want pink flowers, please." Yes, he wanted to wear Lauren's pink raincoat with flowers. Sigh.

Welcome Fall!

In the past few weeks so much has happened and I am finally blogging about it! So let's go in chronological order....

BACK TO SCHOOL!
Emma started school August 30th and now she's a big 2nd grader!

Exciting support from little brother and little sister!

Lauren also started back to preschool and is having a marvelous time! She has already been on 2 field trips: Apple picking and visiting the animals at the Rochester Fair!

Sitting at her new desk in Mrs. Miller's class.

Check out the moon over the Atlantic at Long Sands beach in York, Maine at the end of August. Wow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DALLIN!!
September 8, 2009: 2 big events! Dallin turned 2 years old and had a baby cousin born the same day (Chloe Elizabeth Erekson)!
Dallin had a fun night of great gifts and treats, including this amazing cake! You know me...

Our family is so blessed to have Dallin in our home! He makes us feel so happy and he is really my little angel! His smile is contagious and his personality is adorable. He loves to play and is currently obsessed with the Wiggles! He even woke up in the middle of the night last week and said, "Can I watch the Wiggles?" He hardly had his eyes open! Hilarious! Dallin's best qualities are that he is happy, loving, fun, silly, smart, and joyful. How could we live without him!!!???
Ride 'em cowboy!

Basketball or skeeball, Jedi style!
This little digger came from an awesome book that has cut out cardboard vehicles (digger, cement truck, and dump truck). You attach the wheels to drive them around and, with the moving parts, Dallin has been playing with this far more than I ever expected!

Eat up!
SOCCER SEASON!!!
Emma also started soccer this fall and found herself almost immediately injured! The second game, Emma was sitting on the sidelines when a ball came out of nowhere (okay, it was the field) and nailed her on the face!

Feeling better and back in the game!

Dad is finally here!
I was snapping pictures while driving...Is that illegal?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUREN!
On October 2nd, Lauren turned 4 years old!! What an exciting day! We celebrated in the afternoon by inviting friends to enjoy cake with us. What a fun surprise for Lauren! She had no idea that we would have over 25 guests showing up to wish her a happy birthday and they were so sweet to bring her PERFECT gifts! Thank you so much for the awesome gifts everyone!

Lauren's yummy dinner selection: hot dogs and fruit cocktail. Yum!!
Okay, Steve and I couldn't take that meal so I made some Cheese Steaks.

Let the party begin!
Lauren is such a special lady! Her beautiful grin and adorable giggle make us so happy! Lauren is such an amazing person with so many talents! She is so strong--go ahead, challenge her to a stare-off and I'll give you $20 if you can win! Of course, her strong will can be a challenge when there is a 'teaching moment' and she doesn't feel like learning. Still, this will be one of her greatest strengths as she grows up and I am so excited to see her blossom into the beautiful, happy, loving girl she is becoming! Her most recent accomplishments include learning to write her letters--in fact, she wrote her name without any formal instruction and blew me away with her near accuracy! Now we are working on the rest of the alphabet and she is speedily learning!
The big 4!
So excited about the Barbie Musketeer movie!
Lauren on her new roller skates! Umm, these are Star Wars....I love TJ Maxx....
THE CAKE REVEAL...
In case you couldn't tell, that is the Beast with his castle....but wait, what about Belle? Where is the BEAUTY of Beauty and the Beast????
This is a Belle cake! I found it at Walmart today for half off so it gave me the inspiration I needed for our family cake!
Beauty and the Beast: the perfect couple....kinda like Mary and Steve.
